Here are some of the stories that made headlines this past week on Patch.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The news all over the country during the week of Nov. 1-7 was dominated by election stories, obviously, since Election Day this year had record numbers of voters turn out to the polls nationwide, and in Alabama as well.
U.S. House seats and one U.S. Senate seat were decided Tuesday, as well as a bevy of local Jefferson County offices.
Also in the news, Gov. Kay Ivey extended the state's Safer at Home order into December, which includes the mandatory face covering order.

A man was arrested after police say he engaged in a shootout with law enforcement, and led them on a chase through Birmingham, Vestavia Hills, Homewood and Hoover.
