Alabama Tops 650 COVID-19 Deaths As Daily Cases Decrease
For the second straight day, new cases of COVID-19 in Alabama have decreased significantly.
MONTGOMERY, AL — After a week that saw the highest daily totals for new COVID-19 cases in Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Health reported a decrease in new cases of the virus for the second consecutive day, and one of the lowest daily totals of new cases in weeks.
The ADPH has confirmed 18,554 cases of COVID-19 and 651 fatalities from the virus. Since March 13, 1,900 people have been hospitalized with the illness, and 9,330 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus.
The state reported just 204 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, a huge decrease from daily totals seen over the weekend.

New COVID-19 case totals in the last 5 days:

- May 29: 510 new cases
- May 30: 432 new cases
- May 31: 520 new cases
- June 1: 337 new cases
- June 2: 204 new cases
In the last two weeks, the state has confirmed 5,560 new COVID-19 cases, which is one of the highest 2-week totals since the pandemic began, but the numbers from the last two days should be encouraging.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the counties in Alabama with more than 1,000 total COVID-19 cases:
- Mobile County: 2,284 cases (460 in last 14 days); 118 deaths
- Jefferson County: 1,884 cases (454 in last 14 days); 103 deaths
- Montgomery County: 1,823 (834 in last 14 days); 43 deaths
