Headlines from the week included bomb threats in St. Clair County, Tropical Storm Gordon hitting Alabama and more.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The week of September 3-8 included some grim headlines, with a spree of shootings in the Birmingham area and a bomb scare in four schools in St. Clair County, and also included Tropical Storm Gordon making landfall in Alabama.
Luckily for Birmingham residents, Gordon did not have much of an effect on the city, and fortunately for St. Clair County students, the bomb threats were defused, so to speak. Here were some of the stories that made headlines in the Birmingham metro during the week:

Gordon Makes Landfall At Alabama/Mississippi Border
Baldwin and Mobile counties saw Tropical Storm Gordon creep into the area Tuesday from Florida, as the storm made landfall just west of the Alabama/Mississippi border around 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Woodlawn High School Student Shot And Killed Saturday Morning
A Woodlawn High School student was shot and killed just after midnight Saturday morning. The victim, 16-year-old William Edwards, was killed inside his home in east Birmingham. He was one of the captains of the Woodlawn High School football team.
The St. Clair County courthouses in Pell City and Ashville, along with some schools in the county received bomb threats Tuesday morning. Pell City High School, Ashville Elementary School, Ashville Middle School and Ashville High School were placed on lock-down pending the investigation.
Four Homicides In Less Than 24 Hours In Birmingham
Police reported four homicides Wednesday in the city, with several injuries from gunshots also reported. The four murders brought the total for Birmingham in 2018 to 81.
ALDOT Opens 17th Street North Ramp
Motorists entering downtown Birmingham now will benefit from the opening of the 17th Street North ramp as part of the Alabama Department of Transportation's Central Business District Project.
