Here are the stories that made headlines this past week in the Birmingham metro.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The month of July gave way to August this past week, and with it, some key news stories made headlines. From an ethics complaint against Birmingham's former mayor to a viral video showing a racially-charged argument in a Subway restaurant, plenty of interesting stories came Birmingham's way this week.

Former Birmingham Mayor Violated Ethics Law: Commission

The Alabama Ethics Commission said this week that former Birmingham Mayor William Bell violated a state ethics law while in office. The complaint stems from a meeting Bell had with bis staff while he was running for re-election.

A manager at a Birmingham Subway restaurant was fired this week after a video was posted online of her uttering racial slurs at a fellow employee's family. The incident happened at the Subway on Valley Avenue.

When the Birmingham Police Department was informed of a little girl wandering alone in the street in Roebuck Springs, they likely did not expect that child to spark a homicide investigation. However, the Birmingham Police Department is now investigating a double homicide in the incident.

A dozen people are believed to have been infected with rat lungworm - a rare parasite that has been detected on raw vegetables, among other sources - which health officials have said is a backyard garden problem.

Three Suspects Arrested In Human Trafficking Case

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl. Those arrested are: LaCrystal Renae Crawford, 31; Tyrone Allen, 44, and James Cornelius Harris, 36. All are from Birmingham.
