BIRMINGHAM, AL — At least two news stories in the state made some national headlines this past week. A federal court ruling and a missing persons case in Alabama both became notable stories beyond the state.
Alabama's controversial abortion ban passed earlier this year was blocked by a federal judge Monday, which continues the battle from anti-abortion activists in hopes of bringing the abortion issue to the SCOTUS.
Also, a Homewood teenager who has been missing since Oct. 23 has not been found, and the reaed for her return has reached $80,000.

Birmingham Water Works Board chairwoman Sherry Lewis was convicted Wednesday of two of the three ethics charges for which she was indicted in 2017.
A federal judge Tuesday struck down legislation passed earlier this year that would ban most abortions in Alabama. The ban was set to take effect Nov. 15.
