More Than 700 New COVID-19 Cases In Alabama In Last 24 Hours

In the last 24, hours, Alabama has confirmed more than 700 new cases reported as the state has sen an increase in testing.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The the last 24 hours, the Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed more than 700 new COVID-19 cases, the most new cases in a 24-hour span since the pandemic began. This number reflects an increase in testing for the virus statewide.

Total, the state has confirmed 15,311 cases of COVID-19, with 573 deaths from the virus, with nearly 8,000 patients resumed to have recovered. Of the 13 deaths in the last 24 hours, seven of those were reported in Jefferson County.

In the last two weeks, 73,741 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state. During that time, 4,861 tests have come back positive.

In the five days leading up to Tuesday, the state saw a fluctuation of new cases, as the state has eased restrictions on venues and businesses reopening. The numbers of new cases in Alabama in the last five days:

  • May 21: 403 new cases
  • May 22: 367 new cases
  • May 23: 374 new cases
  • May 24: 358 new cases
  • May 25: 646 new cases

Jefferson County reported half of the deaths from COVID-19 in the last day, as the county's total fatality count approaches 100.

Here are the counties with the most cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday afternoon:

  • Mobile County: 2,044 confirmed cases; 19,584 tested; 112 deaths
  • Jefferson County: 1,638 confirmed cases; 34,798 tested; 95 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 1,332 confirmed cases; 8,365 tested; 33 deaths
  • Marshall County: 653 confirmed cases; 5,038 tested; 9 deaths
  • Tuscaloosa County: 582 confirmed cases; 8,735 tested; 12 deaths
  • Lee County: 513 confirmed cases; 5,742 tested; 32 deaths
