2. Homewood police seize more than a pound of cocaine in drug bust (al.com) — Homewood police executed a narcotics search warrant in southwest Birmingham, seizing more than a pound of cocaine plus meth, ecstasy, marijuana, pills, guns and cash. A 47-year-old Birmingham man faces multiple trafficking and possession charges and is being held in Jefferson County Jail on over $250,000 bond. The case began in Homewood but centers on a Birmingham residence.
   

3. Birmingham police searching for missing senior with dementia (trussvilletribune.com) — Birmingham police are asking residents to help find 82-year-old Joseph James Turner, who has dementia and was last seen Saturday after leaving the Morris Avenue area on foot. Turner, who is not from Birmingham, was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, black Crocs and a white or gray bucket hat. Anyone who may have seen him is urged to call Birmingham police.
   

4. Public radio station in Alabama says it can no longer use 'Gulf of Mexico' (ms.now subscription) — Birmingham's public radio station WBHM says a new Alabama law will force its staff to say "Gulf of America" instead of "Gulf of Mexico" in all official communications starting October 1. Station leaders, tied to the University of Alabama at Birmingham's license, warn that employees could face discipline and WBHM could risk UAB support if they refuse to comply.
