BIRMINGHAM, AL — This week in the Birmingham area, the Jefferson County Board of Education appointed an interim superintendent as it searches for a replacement for Dr. Craig Pouncy. This was just one of the local news stories that made headlines on Patch this past week.

Gov. Kay Ivey Announces She Will Undergo Radiation Treatment

Gov. Kay Ivey announced Thursday she will undergo treatment for a a malignant spot on her lungs. Ivey is expected to be admitted to UAB Hospital Friday morning for an outpatient procedure that will begin a series of radiation treatments.
