Suspect In All-Night Manhunt Faces Multiple Charges

A man who allegedly shot at police officers and led police on a multi-jurisdiction chase has been formally charged.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A manhunt that lasted all through Monday evening into Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of a suspect who has bow been charged with multiple offenses. Anthony Jonell Moore faces attempted murder charges, in addition to charges of discharging firearms into an occupied vehicle.

The incident began shortly before 10 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Georgia Road when East Precinct officers on patrol spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officers tried to pull over the motorist, but he did not comply and a chase ensued. It was during the initial portion of the pursuit that the suspect fired on officers - reportedly more than a dozen times. One officer was injured by shattered glass.

The chase reportedly traveled along interstates 20, 59 and 459 before the suspect exited on Deerfoot Parkway in Trussville. The chase continued through the Clay area along Old Springville Road before the suspect crashed on Surrey Lane. He then fled on foot into a wooded area.

Moore was taken into custody by Argo and Birmingham police on Will Keith Road just before 9 a.m. Tuesday. Police had broken down the perimeter of the overnight search when Moore was seen emerging from a wooded area.

Moore is being transferred from the Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail, where he will be held without bond.
