BIRMINGHAM, AL - The past week saw the Birmingham metro area drenched in rain from Sub-Tropical Storm Alberto to begin the week, as the storm made its way up the state from the Gulf of Mexico. But that was just the beginning of a newsworthy week in the area, as a church sex scandal came to light, campaigns have heated up ahead of the June 5 primaries, a legendary local eatery unexpectedly closed its doors, three local high schools were chosen to have theit football season openers broadcast on ESPN and a radio talk show host surprised a local high school graduate with a new SUV after learning he spent the year taking a 14-mile bus ride to and from school.

ESPN To Televise Three Area High Schools' Season Openers
