• 5 FREE resources for Jefferson County seniors: rides, lunches + a glam pageant (bhamnow.com) — Gardendale seniors can tap into free county-run resources, including activities and transportation offered through the Gardendale Senior Center. Jefferson County Senior Services is also opening applications October 1 for the long-running Ms. Senior Jefferson County Pageant, hosting holiday celebrations, wellness and technology classes, memory screenings, and lunch-and-learn programs that help older adults stay active, informed, and connected.
   

• New Publix headed to Kimberly in North Jefferson County (bhamnow.com) — A new Publix in nearby Kimberly will give North Jefferson County residents another full-service grocery option, meaning many won't need to drive to Gardendale for big shopping trips. Backed by a county tax incentive, the project is expected to bring 67 jobs and millions in long-term tax revenue, while addressing a local food desert.
