• 1st phase of Birmingham Northern Beltline opens, plans for 2nd phase underway (wbrc.com) — Gardendale drivers are a step closer to faster hospital access and new economic growth as the first two-mile stretch of the Birmingham Northern Beltline opens and phase two is funded to extend the road eight miles west into town by 2030. Officials say the four-lane corridor will improve emergency travel times, connect to U.S. 31 near I-65, and attract new industrial and commercial development.
   

• Advocates resist move to end desegregation oversight in Alabama schools (al.com) — Ongoing school desegregation cases in Alabama still affect districts like Jefferson County, where Gardendale's past attempt to form its own school system was blocked under federal oversight. Civil rights lawyers argue true integration has not been achieved and vow to resist Trump administration efforts to close long-running cases they say still protect Black students' educational opportunities statewide.
