Hello again, everybody! It's me, Miranda Fraraccio, your host of the Patch newsletter. Follow along for everything you need to know about what's happening in town these days.
But first, your local weather:

Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:
- The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs is organizing a panel discussion called "Operation Resilience" on Jul. 27 at Hoover City Hall to explore the concept of building a resilient lifestyle. The event will feature a panel of veterans who have displayed resilience throughout their military and civilian careers, emphasizing the importance of developing personal skills and traits to respond effectively to life's challenges. Resilience involves working through emotional pain, and veterans are often associated with qualities like integrity and strength and with excelling in building and maintaining resilience traits and skills. - Authorities in Alabama have raised doubts about the story of Carlee Russell, 25, who disappeared for two days after reporting a toddler wandering on the highway. While her mother claimed she was abducted, police have been unable to verify her initial statement, and surveillance footage shows Russell walking alone before returning home conscious and talking. Police stated that they found no evidence of a toddler on the interstate and are still investigating the case, hoping Russell will provide more answers about her disappearance. (Spectrum News)
- The City of Hoover is appealing a Jefferson County judge's ruling that temporarily bars them from courting landowners in the Indian Ford Fire District. The judge's order restricts Hoover from proceeding with the annexation process for 10 business days, allowing the district's citizens to have their voices heard before the election on Aug. 8. Hoover's attorney maintains that the city disagrees with the ruling and will seek remedies to overturn it, citing previous declarations by the Alabama Supreme Court and the Alabama Attorney General regarding the annexation process.
