• Hoover zoning board approves plans for 8 new homes in Inverness (hooversun.com) — Hoover's Planning and Zoning Commission has approved eight new residential lots in the Inverness area, with construction on infrastructure expected to begin soon. The board also delayed decisions on a proposed Riverchase community center and Trace Crossings industrial lots while traffic and stormwater concerns are addressed, issues that could affect nearby Hoover neighborhoods and future development.
   

• 23 weekend events in Birmingham: Artwalk, Fit Fest + more, Sept. 10–13, 2026 (bhamnow.com) — Hoover residents have a busy Sept. 10–13 weekend nearby, including a free fiber-arts day at Hoover Church of Christ and the Together in Teal butterfly release at Aldridge Gardens. The broader Birmingham-area lineup features sports, festivals, cleanups, theater, fitness events and family activities, giving locals plenty of options just minutes from home.
   

• Bond denied for Birmingham man accused of setting fire to car with ex-girlfriend in it (al.com) — A Birmingham man accused of setting his ex-girlfriend's car on fire while she was inside will remain jailed without bond after a Jefferson County judge cited public safety concerns. He was arrested earlier this week at his Hoover workplace by Midfield police and Hoover's Special Response Team, and now faces multiple felony charges with a preliminary hearing set next month.
