1. City clamps down on Hoover food truck operators (280living.com) — Hoover has tightened its food truck rules, which is why you're seeing fewer trucks parked along local roads and shopping centers. New regulations limit where and when trucks can operate, encourage planned food truck courts with utilities and bathrooms, and aim to protect safety, parking, and nearby brick-and-mortar restaurants while still allowing trucks at special events and in certain business districts.
   

2. City Council OKs tax breaks (hooversun.com) — Hoover residents can expect new HomeSense and Shoe Dept stores at Riverchase Crossing after the City Council approved up to $1.9 million in sales-tax rebates to spur redevelopment of the former Big Lots space. The project brings the first HomeSense in Alabama and first Shoe Dept in Hoover, aiming to revive one of the city's older shopping centers and boost visitor traffic and tax revenue.
   

3. Shades Mountain Elementary nurse named Alabama School Nurse of the Year (hooversun.com) — Hoover families will soon have access to a free Community Health & Wellness Fair on Oct. 3 at Hunter Street Baptist Church, led by Shades Mountain Elementary nurse Elisabeth Goodman. Goodman, who created the event, was just named Alabama Registered School Nurse of the Year for her work across Hoover City Schools. Expect health resources, games, food trucks, and dozens of community vendors.
   

4. 15 Alabama restaurants with fried chicken worth knowing about, from buffets to soul food gems (al.com) — Hoover diners get a special shout-out in this statewide fried chicken roundup, thanks to Eugene's Hot Chicken, which now operates a brick-and-mortar location in the city. The piece spotlights 15 Alabama-grown spots, from buffets to soul food cafes, all praised for crispy, juicy fried chicken and generous Southern sides, giving Hoover residents plenty of road-trip and close-to-home options.
   

5. Hoover mom, business owner to compete for Mrs. America (hooversun.com) — A Hoover mom and salon owner, Katie Guerin, is representing Alabama on the national stage after winning the Mrs. Alabama America 2026 title. The longtime pageant competitor balances raising two daughters, running Foil Salon in nearby Vestavia Hills, and extensive volunteer work with charities and her own foundation. Her journey to the Mrs. America competition highlights local philanthropy and hometown pride.
