Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- Jackie Reed, a well-known advocate in the City of Huntsville, has passed away. Reed was most known for her dedication and love for this city. She ran for elected offices several times, and though she did not win, she held the officials to their word and pushed them to work harder for the city at council meetings. Service information can be found on Berry Hill’s website. (WHNT)
- Questions are being raised to whether or not the circuit court judgeship was allowed to be moved from Jefferson County to Madison County. Despite a letter written in combination of multiple organizations asking Ivey to postpone the process, communications from Ivey’s team state that “The appointment process is ongoing.” (AL.com)
- The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has announced a Civic Engagement Academy. Applications are open now through August 8 for the free six week course. (WHNT)
- Johnny Ray Jordan, arrested around two weeks ago for alleged home repair fraud (see my Daily from 6/29), has been arrested again for the same issue. This report originally came in October 2021, and he is reported to have taken $43,000 from a woman and the work was never done. (WHNT)
