You might have heard about the two Bibb County officers that were shot through the emergency alert on your phone, but you might not know that I'm from Bibb County. While I make an effort to bring your attention to any time an officer is shot on duty throughout the state, I can't help but be so heartbroken for the families in my hometown community. I know both officers, so this one truly hits home for me. As of the time of writing this, the suspect has still not been caught. I'll keep you updated on this situation as we get more. (Details)

Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- UAH Space Hardware Club Teams won first (Team Spaceshot), second (Team Star Saber), and third (Team Highwire) in the country in an American Astronautical Society’s CanSat competition. In the overalls of the competition, which were international, Team Spaceshot came in 8th, Star Saber was 13th, and Highwire took 16th place. (Patch)
- Huntsville Hospital has two upcoming events to support their NICU. “Miracle Bash” will be August 5, and will be for ages 21+ to have a night out at Stovehouse. Swim For Melissa will be for kids ages 4-14 on July 30 at the Hampton Cove Pool, and participating teams will swim as many laps as they can in 5 minutes. (themadisonrecord.com)
- Kimberly Clay, a former employee of the US Space & Rocket Center, has sued the organization for age discrimination. According to Clay, she filed formal and informal HR complaints, but after the formal complaint was fired illegally. The Space and Rocket Center said they cannot comment on pending litigation. - Alabama Tax Free Weekend is July 15-17 this year. Tax-free items include clothing, computers, school supplies, and books. (Tax Admin)
- Isom’s Orchard has announced a U-Pick event for blackberries through this Friday, with no entry fee and $12 per basket. Their flower fields are now open on Fridays and Saturdays as well, while flowers are blooming! (Isom’s Orchard)
