1. Huntsville considers public safety pay changes in proposed 2027 budget (waff.com) — Huntsville officials are weighing a 2027 budget that would speed midcareer raises and add new top pay steps for police officers and firefighters, while creating 18 additional public safety positions. With a $360.6 million general fund and a 2% cost-of-living raise proposed, the plan also supports new precincts and fire stations to keep pace with the city's rapid growth, pending City Council approval next Thursday.
   

2. Pedestrian hit, killed on North Memorial Parkway (rocketcitynow.com) — A man was struck and killed by a car Friday night on North Memorial Parkway near Louis Crews Stadium in Huntsville, and the driver was not injured. Emergency crews pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and Huntsville Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, an incident that may affect traffic and safety awareness along this busy corridor.
   

3. Breaking the barrier: How UAH students are racing 200 teams to aviation history (rocketcitynow.com) — UAH students in Huntsville are racing nearly 200 teams nationwide to be the first amateurs to break the sound barrier with a remote-controlled aircraft under 55 pounds, competing for Boom Supersonic's $800,000 prize. Their Project 1.06 relies on private donations and local expertise, and team members hope the effort will train future engineers while potentially shaping civilian and military uses for supersonic drones.
   

4. NASA Administrator makes stop in Rocket City (whnt.com) — NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman spent Friday in Huntsville meeting with Marshall Space Flight Center staff and taking their questions, underscoring his ongoing ties to the Rocket City. He also recently donated $25 million to the new Inspiration4 Complex at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, reflecting Huntsville's central role in current and future space efforts.
   

5. Sparkman takes down Huntsville for fourth straight victory (al.com) — Huntsville High's Panthers fell 21-7 to Sparkman in a key Class 6A, Region 4 matchup at Milton Frank Stadium, despite tying the game 7-7 by halftime. Sparkman's offense, led by standout senior Josh Naylon and a crucial third-quarter score after a Huntsville muffed punt, ultimately overpowered the Panthers, who were held to just 97 total yards and three fumbles.
