Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:
- Scores of people turned out for the 17th Annual Tour De LADR, which took bike riders 20 miles along Mobile Bay through Fairhope. LADR, which stands for Lower Alabama Doctors, started the ride initially for exercise and it's grown to what it is today, benefitting Camp Rapahope. More than 100 riders showed up for the event. Proceeds benefit Camp Rapahope for children diagnosed with cancer. (Fox 10 News)
- More than 450 officers were killed in the line of duty last year, including 14 here in Alabama. They're set to be honored from May 11 to 17 at National Police Week in Washington, D.C. But getting to the ceremony isn't always easy for loved ones. The mother of one of the Alabama officers has set up fundraisers to help families attend the ceremony. (Fox 10 News)
- Morgan Barnhill called Mobile police on Tuesday, Mar. 29 to report a burglary at his home. He told officers that an unknown man tried to enter his shed, so he struck the man over the head with a shovel. It was revealed that Barnhill lied about the attempted burglary to officers. As a result of being hit with the shovel, Etienne Murray, 25, died on Friday, Apr. 1. Barnhill did know Murray but it is unclear what events led up to Murray being hit; this is an active investigation. (WKRG News 5)
