Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:
- The City of Mobile has recently established three food pantries, one each in Districts 1-3, according to Mayor Sandy Stimpson. The pantries, which leverage federal funding and local community partnerships, are designed to expand access to quality food and nutrition. More information on each food pantry, including locations and operating hours, is available in the full story. (NBC 15 WPMI)
- Next week, the Mobile City Council will consider a potential option for the aging Mobile Civic Center. Under consideration is a contract with Populous Architects to conduct a master plan for renovation; if approved, the company will analyze which investments are needed to revitalize the downtown Mobile venue. Currently, no decisions have been made on whether to preserve the current Civic Center or demolish it to build anew. (AL.com)
- On Tuesday, a man died in a crash while trying to escape Mobile police officers. According to investigators, the unnamed driver took off when an MPD officer tried to stop him. The chase hit speeds over 65 miles per hour before the suspect lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. (Fox 10 News)
