Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:

  1. The University of South Alabama's police chief has been placed on administrative leave. The exact reasons for Zeke Aull's administrative leave have not been given to the community by the university. Aull has been the university's police chief since 2010. (WKRG News 5)
  2. Mobile's City Council has approved a safe zone amendment for residents in Africatown. The amendment will not allow industrial sites near most residential areas within Africatown. Residents are hopeful that the safe zone amendment will cut the noise and pollution in the community. (Fox 10 News)
  3. Midtown Mobile's Civil War cannon has been painted colorful hues to celebrate Pride Month. The cannon is routinely painted for special events, including Breast Cancer Awareness Month; however, this is the first time the cannon has donned the rainbow. While the move has been largely well-received in Mobile with little negative sentiment, some residents spoke out against it in Tuesday's city council meeting. (AL.com)
