Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:

  1. The Mobile Airport Authority and Alabama State Port Authority won a $100 million joint federal grant to fund transportation infrastructure, including an upcoming international terminal at the Mobile Downtown Airport. MAA President, Chris Curry says the new terminal creates expanded air freight capacity and spurs economic growth. It is expected to be completed in 2024. (WKRG News 5)
  2. Over the weekend, Mobile Area Water responded to two sanitary sewer overflows. On Saturday, the waste overflow at 900 McCay Avenue was due to heavy grease blockage and debris in the sewer lines while Sunday's overflow at 3700 Lyndell Drive occurred due to a break on the low-pressure force main. Health officials advise residents to take precautions when coming into contact with standing water. (WKRG News 5)
  3. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court held a hearing for a former Mobile doctor's appeal. Dr. Xiulu Ruan had been convicted of illegally prescribing opiates and sentenced to 21 years of prison in 2017. Attorneys for Dr. Ruan argued the jury did not get to hear the "good faith" argument in his case, but some justices reportedly implied that the argument was not necessary. (NBC 15 WPMI)
