Here are the top three stories today in Mobile:

  1. On Friday, Mar. 25 at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi and the Archdiocese of Mobile will join the Pope's consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The event will begin with a Rosary at 7:40 a.m., followed by a brief prayer service; all community members are invited to attend in person or join via livestream. Pope Francis' consecration will take later that day at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Basilica. (NBC 15 WPMI)
  2. Despite global shipping delays and challenges, Mobile's port saw a double-digit rise in container traffic last month, according to the Port Authority. These numbers appear to reflect the impact of a new refrigerated shipping facility, as well as an ongoing emphasis on building intermodal connections. "The Port of Mobile is rising to meet the market's needs as the demand for dynamic, on-time service grows nationwide and shippers leverage optionality to increase competition," said Beth Branch, Chief Commercial Officer. 3. A Mobile County Public School System teacher has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student. Patricia Evans, a 26-year-old first-year teacher, was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday after the school was made aware of the allegations against her. Authorities investigated the matter on Wednesday and found probable cause to arrest Evans for the offense of engaging in a sex act with a student under 19 years of age. (NBC 15 WPMI)
