Here are the top three stories in Mobile today:

  1. The final plans for the Mobile River Bridge project have been delayed yet again as the ALDOT waits for "a more stable market." The project's goal is to alleviate traffic on the Bayway. The current framework of the plan, which officials hope to draft by Jun. 1, would impose a $2.50 toll for cars that use the new bridge, with toll-free options including the Causeway, Wallace and Bankhead tunnels and the Africatown bridge. (Fox 10 News)
  2. Public officials are blaming the large backlog of Mobile County court cases on the current lack of judges. The local judge shortage here in Mobile is among the worst in Alabama, with the county coming in at 2.63 judges less than its "implied need," according to a formula devised by the court system. To help, four retired circuit court judges will temporarily preside over Mobile jury trials on an as-needed basis. (Fox 10 News)
  3. A missing Mobile teenager's body was identified in a Mississippi hospital last week. Anews release from the D'Iberville, Mississippi police stated that first responders were called to a local hotel for a medical emergency on the afternoon of Mar. 24, where they found an unresponsive female with no identification. Over the weekend, the "Jane Doe" was identified as 13-year-old Keyanna Sylvester, a runaway who had previously been reported missing by the Mobile Police Department. No further details about Sylvester's death have been released at this time. (WLBT)
