📰 News we're reading

1. Prosecutors now reviewing case involving two Mobile businesses (fox10tv.com) — Mobile residents who hired All Weather Roofing & Construction or Window Depot USA of Mobile should know police have turned their case over to the Mobile County District Attorney for possible criminal charges. After complaints from dozens of customers, the city revoked licenses and state regulators pulled building licenses, while one company has now filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

2. Mobile's mayor takes a ride on first of what he hopes are many trolley buses (fox10tv.com) — Mobile riders could soon see more trolley-style buses as Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis tests a prototype and pushes to replace many of the city's older, larger buses. The plan ties into a broader overhaul of Second Line Transit, including expanded microtransit, raising questions from community leaders about how well new routes will serve neighborhoods like Prichard and other outlying areas.

3. Judge orders release of bodycam footage from deadly Mobile SWAT raid (fox10tv.com) — A federal judge has ruled that body camera footage from a 2023 Mobile police SWAT raid that left teenager Randall Adjessom dead must be released to the public. While some parts of the family's lawsuit continue, the judge also paused broader discovery into Mobile's policing policies until it's decided whether officers violated constitutional rights.

4. Trump's Mobile rally could be about more than Alabama politics, political columnist says (wkrg.com) — President Donald Trump is set to hold a large rally in Mobile on Friday, a visit analysts say is aimed more at energizing Republican turnout than boosting specific Alabama candidates. Political columnist Quin Hillyer notes the stop also taps Mobile's nostalgic role in Trump's campaign history and its media reach into key parts of Florida and neighboring states.

5. Cracking the Code: How Passion for Rubik's Cubes Led to Becoming USACE's Knowledge Management Professional of the Year (army.mil) — Based in Mobile's U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District, knowledge management specialist Eric North just earned national recognition as USACE's Knowledge Management Professional of the Year. The article traces how his Rubik's Cube mindset, process improvements, and careful use of generative AI have streamlined communication and decision-making across the Mobile District, highlighting career paths for non-engineers in this major local employer.

I've watched these geese for years and often wonder where they go. Does anybody know? And where are they coming from? TIA (Nextdoor Bradbury)
