First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy, warm and humid. High: 74 Low: 63.

Here are the top three stories in Mobile today:

  1. Every year, during the last full weekend in February, Mobile County participates in Alabama's Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday to help people prepare for extreme weather. MobileCountyAL.gov has curated a list of items they recommend every household have on-hand as a basic emergency kit that includes supplies ranging from batteries to portable generators. Starting on Friday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 27, the Alabama Department of Revenue allows many items to be exempt from sales tax. (Mobile County Government)
  2. The Mobile Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man accused of using someone else's credit card. Police officers were called to a Dollar General store at Azalea Road for a report of credit card fraud on Feb. 10 around 8 p.m. The card owner told officers she lost her debit card and charges appeared on her account before she could cancel it. Officers determined that a man was using the card to make several purchases and continue to investigate the credit card fraud case. (WKRG News 5)
  3. According to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, residents in a Midtown neighborhood were evacuated due to a major gas leak. MFRD was on the scene near Airport and Mount Island Drive, and several blocks of Airport Boulevard were closed for hours. The roads have since reopened and no injuries have been reported.
