• State Grants (alasu.edu) — If you live in Montgomery or anywhere in Alabama and need help paying for college, several state programs may cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies. From National Guard and GI dependents' benefits to aid for families of blind parents and fallen police or firefighters, many applications run through Montgomery-based agencies you can contact directly for details. 
• Montgomery Police Department holds recruit signing photo gallery (montgomeryadvertiser.com) — Montgomery's police force just welcomed a new class of recruits during a signing ceremony outside City Hall, where Mayor Steven Reed, city leaders, and police brass congratulated them. A new fleet of vehicles, updated service weapons, and signing bonuses were also showcased, highlighting ongoing investments in public safety staffing and equipment for local residents.
• Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest now open (cullmantribune.com) — Montgomery residents can now enter the 2027 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest, open to amateur photographers whose images were taken anywhere in the state over the last two years. You can also see past winning photos for free at the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery downtown through September 25, and explore more exhibits and rules online before the October 30 entry deadline.
