• LAMP high school misses spot on U.S. News & World Report rankings list (wsfa.com) — Montgomery parents and students at LAMP High School are being told the school's absence from this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings stems from data handled at the state and national level, not from any sudden drop in performance. Superintendent Zickeyous Byrd says MPS is working with state officials to learn what happened and will share updates.
   

• New system to buy Alabama hunting and fishing licenses becomes available Monday, August 24 (fox10tv.com) — Starting Monday, Aug. 24, Alabamians will buy hunting and fishing licenses through a new My Outdoor Alabama system, announced from Montgomery. The updated platform lets you create or claim an online profile, upload disability or military documents, and manage payment details. Officials say it should be easier to use, especially for people with disabilities.
   

• July jobs report: unemployment was up, labor force participation was down (aldailynews.com) — From Montgomery, state officials report Alabama's July unemployment rate ticked up to 3.4% while labor force participation slipped, even as construction and manufacturing wages tied record highs. The state added more than 6,000 jobs in July, led by leisure, hospitality, and health care. Leaders say growing sectors like nursing and manufacturing are key to better-paying opportunities for Alabamians.
