Mountain Brook Council Reviews Intersection Studies

Several intersections that have been cause for concern were discussed by the Mountain Brook City Council this week.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - The Mountain Brook City Council reviewed research on some of the city's intersections this week for inclusion in a possible grants. Richard Caudle of Skipper Consultants presented his findings to council members during a meeting on March 12.

The city has done extensive research on several intersections in the community in an effort to accommodate the city's increased traffic. There were seven different intersections discussed, including roads near Brookwood Forest Elementary — Overton Road at Briar Oak Drive and Briar Oak Circle and Overton Road at South Brookwood Road. Caudle proposed the city consider adding a sidewalk along the south side of Overton Road between Briar Oak Drive and South Brookwood Road for pedestrians to have a safe area to walk. This would allow those going to BWF to use the crosswalk at Overton Road and South Brookwood Road to get to the school.

Traffic issues have been cause for concern near BWF during carpool times, as people have complained of cars parked along South Brookwood Road. The council suggested to BWF principal Nathan Pitner to not allow parent pickup or carpool backup before 2:45 p.m. Caudle said this was implemented a few years ago and helped keep cars from stacking up, but over the years it hasn’t been enforced.

According to a report from Village Living, Caudle suggested three of the intersections be left alone. Those include Montevallo Road at Overhill Road, Bethune Drive, and Montevallo Road at Euclid Avenue and Leach Drive.
