• The $53 million widened section of U.S. 280 is officially open in Jefferson County (al.com) — Drivers from Mountain Brook now have access to a newly widened stretch of U.S. 280 between Shades Creek Parkway and I-459, boosting capacity by about a third. ALDOT credits Mountain Brook and neighboring cities for their support as resurfacing and additional upgrades continue into October, promising smoother commutes and a new Pump House Road bridge later this fall.
