2 Killed In Separate Traffic Incidents In West Jefferson County
Two separate vehicle incidents Friday resulted in fatalities in Jefferson County.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Two people were killed in separate traffic incidents resulted in Jefferson County on Friday. Both incidents occurred just after 2 a.m. Jan. 1.
The first incident involved a 26-year-old man whose vehicle slid off the road in the 1000 Block of Eastern Valley Road and struck a home. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said that although no one in the home was injured, the driver died at the scene.
Just minutes later, a 56-year-old woman was struck and killed while trying to cross Pocahontas Road. Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the woman had gotten out of a car and attempted to cross the street when she stepped in front of an oncoming car. Money said the woman died at the scene.

The driver of the oncoming car remained on the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation, Money said.
