Boy, 5, Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself: Police

A 5-year-old Shelby County boy has died after accidentally shooting himself at a home in Morris Sunday night, authorities said.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A 5-year-old Shelby County boy died early Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the face, authorities said.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said 5-year-old Silas Holt was pronounced dead at Children's of Alabama just after 3 a.m. Monday.

Police said the investigation has indicated the child found the gun in a home in the 2000 block of Triple Creek Circle in Morris, and accidentally shot himself. Police said the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
