Child's Death Deemed 'Suspicious' By Sheriff's Investigators

An investigation is underway in Jefferson County surrounding a child's death Wednesday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — An investigation into a child's death in east Jefferson County is underway, as investigators have deemed the incident "suspicious" in nature.

Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies and paramedics responded to the 1100 block of Florentine Circle just after 7 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a two year old child not breathing.

Agee said first responders treated the child on the scene and then transported him to Children’s Hospital where the child later died.

"The total circumstances of this death has been determined to be suspicious and Sheriff’s detectives are investigating," Agee said.
