JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway announced this week that the JCSO will launch some new safety initiatives as 2021 begins.

"As we embark upon a new year and the halfway mark to my leadership as Jefferson County Sheriff, I’m eager and ready to roll-out new initiatives to continue protecting all the great citizens that call Jefferson County home," Pettway said.

Pettway pointed to the Renewed for Re-Entry Program, which focuses on decreasing repeat criminals; the Kickstart Your Day with Sheriff Mark Pettway Program, allowing the Sheriff's Office to provide students participating in virtual learning with the proper food to focus on their studies; and the Citizens Training Academy, allowing citizens to learn more about ways that they can protect themselves and their families.

"These are just a few of the programs we’ve consistently worked at year-round to be more than just a public safety office, but instead a partner in the community," Pettway said. "In 2021 we look forward to growing that relationship that we’ve established as a community partner and we’re encouraged that the new year will be a safe and productive year for Jefferson County as a whole."
