JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — The dangers involved in meeting people from the internet in person have been well-documented by thousands of stories over the years, but the practice continues. Apparently, the dangers continue as well, based on an incident under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Sunday morning just before 6 a.m., a woman reported to the JCSO that she had met a man online and agreed to meet him in the parking lot of a closed fast-food restaurant in the 1600 block of Center Point Road.

The victim said that the man convinced her to drive to a park where he assaulted her and took her car. Sheriff’s deputies located the victim’s car in a parking lot nearby and it is being processed for evidence.
