Pitching coach Jason Jackson will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The news comes after the program made national news following a story by ESPN's David Purdum that the Ohio Gambling Commission issued a directive halting sports betting on any college baseball games involving the Crimson Tide following suspicious betting activity during Alabama's recent 8-6 loss to LSU.

Other states, such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, followed Ohio's lead in prohibiting betting on Alabama baseball.

NOLA.com reported that The Louisiana Gaming Control Board identified two specific bets made in Cincinnati, Ohio prompted the directive.

Louisiana officials said one bet was on a parlay that involved the LSU-Alabama game in addition to another large money line bet.

The controversy is just the latest for a beleaguered Alabama baseball program and an embattled administration within the athletic department.

In March, it was widely reported that head coach Brad Bohannon, Jackson and athletic trainer Sean Stryker were sued by a former player for refusing him medical care for an injury.

Bohannon was in the midst of his sixth season with the Crimson Tide after being named head coach on June 1, 2017.

Alabama baseball (30-15, 9-12 SEC) will be back in action on Thursday at home against Vanderbilt.

This is a developing story. Tuscaloosa Patch will have more information as it comes available.
