We welcome Joe Taylor back to Ernest &amp; Hadley Booksellers for a morning of conversation about his latest novella, <a href="https://ernestandhadleybooks.com/event/2026-04-18/book-signing-talk-joe-taylor-and-guest-don-noble" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Francine</a>, on April 18 starting at 11am!
For a special treat, Don Noble will be his moderator and he has previously stated, "As Director of the Livingston Press, Joe Taylor has always been a promotor of avant-garde and offbeat writing and is a steady producer of edgy fiction himself: fantasy, satire, even novels in verse.
“Francine” might be described as science fiction. The character does, inexplicably, travel through time from the seventeenth century to the present, but the emphasis is on her adventures, not on the apparatus. The travel is a given. The narrator, Francine, a young woman, speaks to us now in the twenty-first century. She remembers her last time with her “father,” René Descartes, on a sailing ship in a violent storm, talking in their cabin.
Before going much farther I recommend the reader look at the Wikipedia entry on Descartes, 1596-1650. You will be amazed."&nbsp;

Join us on April 19, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for a free papermaking event at the Gorgas House! Learn how to make handmade sheets of paper, while learning the history of papermaking. Guests will be able to take home their own handmade sheet of paper, and people 7+ will also be able to make their own from start to finish! An activity table for younger children will also be provided, with crayons and markers. This event is in collaboration with The University of Alabama <a href="https://cis.ua.edu/departments/slis/book-arts/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Book Arts Program</a>!
