Capitol School Touts COVID-19 Testing Measures As New Year Begins

TUSCALOOSA, AL —The Capitol School in Tuscaloosa has kicked off its new school year and is doing so without any active COVID-19 cases.

The private school on Wednesday announced that its 280 students and teachers took polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests to begin the school year, as part of Operation Expanded Testing (OET), which provides free COVID-19 tests to students, teachers and staff.

This represents the second year The Capitol School has conducted free COVID-19 testing through Concentric, Inc. for all teachers and students after becoming the first school in Alabama to offer testing.

The school said its first official testing for the 2022-23 school year was held on Monday, Aug. 15, with 100% of the test results coming back negative

The Capitol School pointed out that the federally-funded OET program provides “click and go” COVID-19 surveillance testing to K-12 schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), summer school programs, correctional facilities, homeless shelters, select non-profit community centers, and more.

In terms of its COVID-19 precautions, The Capitol School also prides itself on being the only school in Alabama to require COVID-19 vaccinations for all of its faculty and staff.

What's more, the school touted its safety measures during 2021, including a mask requirement for all teachers and students, UV light treatment, medical grade air filtration, ionization air purification, and ozone machines.

COVID-19 testing is also required for Capitol School faculty and optional for all students.
