Central High Principal Refutes Rumors Of Monkeypox Case

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Central High Principal Teresha Jones on Wednesday addressed parents regarding a false rumor spreading that there was a confirmed case of monkeypox at the school.

Jones said she was informed of a social media post that has since been deleted claiming that there was a case at Central, which prompted the principal to categorically deny the claims.

"One of my wonderful parents informed me of a concerning social media post stating that there is a case of Monkey Pox at Central High School," she said. "I wanted to personally address this post and confirm that we do not and have not had any reported cases of this disease at Central High School. I have been notified that the post has since been removed."

Jones then said in the event there was cause for alarm, she would make it a point to directly communicate the matter with families.

At present, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that there are 53 confirmed cases in Alabama and 16,603 nationwide.

Data has not been published showing monkeypox cases by county in Alabama.
