As Patch previously reported, the city launched an online survey in June to learn more about what members of the community would like to see at the two lakes. For example, what amenities residents would like to see added, in addition to soliciting feedback on popular activities enjoyed by those who visit the lakes.

The City of Tuscaloosa also said it has contracted with TTL, Inc. to develop the master plan intended to aid in making informed decisions in the future regarding the lakes..
As part of the meeting, TTL staff will also be on-site to present potential concepts for the lake, while also welcoming ideas and feedback.
“Thanks to Elevate Tuscaloosa, we have the opportunity to expand access to Harris Lake and Lake Nicol and create upgraded spaces for locals and visitors alike to enjoy,” Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said on Wednesday. “This process begins with a master plan envisioning the future of the lakes that will include options for updates and a proposal for phasing in improvements over time.”
Lake Harris was first completed in 1929 and occupies 220 acres, while the 384-acre Lake Nicol was completed in 1956. Both locations are popular destinations for hiking, bird watching, canoeing and swimming.
