DCH Coronavirus Inpatient, ICU Totals Drop Over Weekend

DCH Health System on Monday reported the number of inpatient cases at its three hospitals fell over the weekend, along with a drop in the number of patients being treated in intensive care units. The news comes as the state health department reported 3,636 confirmed cases and 58 total deaths for Tuscaloosa County to begin the week.

As of Monday afternoon, DCH reported 83 inpatient cases being treated across the system — a noticeable improvement from 101 cases confirmed on Friday when the system topped triple-digit inpatient totals for the first time. What's more, the system reported 25 of those patients were being treated in ICUs, down from 30 on Friday.

The number of patients on ventilators, however, was unchanged at 10 as of Monday.

The situation at DCH Health System may have improved over the weekend, but case totals continue to rise in Tuscaloosa and across Alabama. Tuscaloosa County's 100 new COVID-19 cases made the county one of four to see triple-digit rises in new virus cases to begin the week, including: Mobile (168), Jefferson (162) and Montgomery (126).

On the testing side, DCH reported testing from Saturday into Monday afternoon saw 40 positive unique test results and 122 negatives. In total, DCH on Monday reported 2,777 total positive tests conducted by the system and 18,338 negatives.

Statewide, the Alabama Department of Public Health reported 1,778 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state's total number to 79,129 cases, 23,415 of which were confirmed in the last two weeks.
