Exchange Club Presents Ken Swindle With Book Of Golden Deeds Award
Retired Tuscaloosa Police Chief Ken Swindle has been named the recipient of a prestigious honor for the club.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa on Monday announced that former Tuscaloosa Police Chief Ken Swindle has been named the club's recipient of its prestigious Book of Golden Deeds Award.

The award, first presented in 1919 by the Exchange Club of Huntington, Indiana, is the club's highest honor and longest-running project, which recognizes dedicated volunteers who commit their time and talents to making their communities better places to live.

Swindle served in the Tuscaloosa Police Department for 34 years and as police chief for 20 years before retiring in 2008.
While Swindle's good deeds continue to this day, he became a law enforcement hero for his role as the lead negotiator in the 1988 West End Christian School hostage incident that ended without anyone being injured.

Swindle currently works with Tuscaloosa law firm Prince Glover Hayes as its chief investigator and remains active in the community.
The Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa's next meeting will be in the Governor's Room at Hotel Capstone at noon on Thursday.
