The longtime staple of the Tuscaloosa culinary scene has closed its 15th Street location and owners took to social media to say goodbye.

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Ichiban Japanese Grill & Sushi took to social media to express gratitude to supporters as the longtime culinary staple officially closed its 15th Street location Thursday.

Patch previously reported that the owners of the restaurant were notified in late February of the termination of their lease by the Hackberry Property, LLC. The property owners then gave 30-day notice to vacate the location by March 20.

While the 15th Street location was forced to close, the restaurant did receive an outpouring of support in the weeks that followed the announcement. A GoFundMe started by Hiu Yi Chow has raised $5,833 of its $5,000 goal from 127 donors, underscoring Ichiban's loyal customer base.

The owners thanked their customers — many of whom saw the family's children grow up — for supporting them for the last 12 years as their time at the location comes to an end.

"Please continue to follow us on Facebook for all the updates of us on moving progress and at the mean time we will use this time to catch up family time and get plenty of rest," the post said.
