No. 1 Alabama Throttles Utah State 55-0 In Season Opener

The Crimson Tide easily handled Utah State 55-0 in the team's 2022 season opener in Tuscaloosa on Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — There were few surprises in the 2022 opener for No. 1 Alabama (1-0) Saturday night in Bryant-Denny Stadium, as the Tide rolled to a 55-0 victory over Utah State (1-1).

Defending Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young put up big numbers just in the first half, going 18-for-28 for 195 yards and tossing five touchdowns to lead the Tide into the locker room up 41-0 at the half.

Young also scored a touchdown on the ground in the Tide's opening drive of the second half to post more than 100 yards on the ground on just five carries.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs, a transfer from Georgia Tech, was a contributor on the ground for Alabama behind Young, logging 93 yards on nine carries for his first game in a Crimson uniform.

Receivers Traeshon Holden and Jermaine Bolden each had two touchdown grabs in the first half, while running back Jase McClellan also had two receiving touchdowns — one coming from backup quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Official attendance at Bryant-Denny Stadium was 98,321 for the opening game of the 2022 season.

The win marks the first time the two teams have met since 2005 and gives Alabama a 3-0 all-time record over the Aggies. It also represents the 184th for the program under head coach Nick Saban and the 21st straight home-opener win for the Tide.

Official attendance at Bryant-Denny Stadium was 98,321 for the opening game of the 2022 season.

The Tide will hit the road next week and head to Austin, Texas for an 11 a.m. matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
