City Council President Jeff Hogg told Patch that he was proud of the focus placed on road maintenance by the previous council and mayor, which has been continued by the current administration.

"We have made great strides to tackle an issue that has been neglected over the years," Hogg said. "By increasing the amount of money we allot, the more roads we can resurface and get up to date. It’s still going to take a while to overcome the previous maintenance schedule but we are chipping away at it in large chunks."

Hogg explained that over the last 18 months, the city has allocated $4 million just to resurfacing, with $2.5 million in 2021 and $1.5 million this year.

He went on to say that the earmarked funds do not include other paving projects such as Main Avenue, Watermelon Road, and Charlie Shirley Road.

"Road maintenance is ever evolving but taking a proactive approach will have the greatest impact for our citizens," Hogg said.

As Patch previously reported, the major projects such as Charlie Shirley Road, Watermelon Road, Rose Boulevard, are items that will have to be considered by the city's our Metropolitan Planning Organization before the supplemental funding is allocated.
