Northport Council President Promotes Free Recycling For Earth Day
City Council President Jeff Hogg issued a challenge on Wednesday to see which district could have the most people sign up for the service.

NORTHPORT, AL — With Earth Day approaching on April 22, Northport City Council President Jeff Hogg has challenged residents in District 5, along with his fellow council members, to see which district can sign up the most new members for the city's free curbside recycling program.
Hogg said the competition is now open and will last through midnight on April 22. He then said at the end of each day, numbers — by District — will be updated on the city’s Facebook page to show who is in the lead.

"As it stands now, only 22% of the households are utilizing this free service," Hogg said on Wednesday. "The ones that are have found that this process is actually easier than they thought and have seen dramatic differences in their garbage outtake."
Above all else, Hogg said, the goal of his challenge on Wednesday is to increase awareness for the service, while fostering a healthier environment and taking pride in the city,.
"It’s a win-win no matter what district comes out on top," he said.
The City of Northport's Public Works Department manages the service, which is available to new and existing residential garbage customers. Recycling bin delivery can be requested by contacting the Public Works office at (205) 333-3003, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Click here to learn more.
