Search Continues For UA Student Reported Missing In Spain

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The search continues for a University of Alabama student who was reported missing this week while traveling abroad, according to a social media post shared by his mother.

Therese Marren Gracey first posted on Facebook Tuesday reporting that her son, James Paul Gracey, was visiting friends who are studying overseas when he disappeared after a night out.

According to the post, he was last seen after going to Shôko Barcelona — a beachfront restaurant and lounge club.

Gracey's mother says he never returned to his Airbnb on Ronda de Sant Pere, which is roughly two miles from the club he visited.

“The police have his phone but he never made it back to his Airbnb,” she wrote, asking anyone with information to contact her directly.

She urged the public to share the post and also provided her personal number, (224) 505-3886, for those with any information.

In an update, she said her son was last seen around 3 a.m. by a friend.

He was reportedly wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, possibly joggers, along with a gold chain with a rhinestone cross.

University of Alabama officials confirmed the student’s identity and said in a statement that they are working to support the family.

“James Paul Gracey is a UA student on a personal trip. UA staff are in touch with the family and those associated with them to offer support and assistance in any way possible,” the university said in a statement.

No additional details about the circumstances of his disappearance or the ongoing investigation have been made public.
