Shelton State Closes Both Campuses After Wave Of Bomb Threats In Alabama

A bomb threat prompted Shelton State Community College and at least three other community colleges to close their campuses Wednesday.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Shelton State Community College announced that it has closed both of its campuses in Tuscaloosa County after a series of bomb threats on Wednesday prompted evacuations and closures across Alabama.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, both campuses of Shelton State Community College are closed until further notice," SSCC said in a statement posted to its social media accounts. "Please monitor social media for updates."

The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed to Patch that a call received Wednesday morning prompted the scare and there doesn't appear to be any credible threat to the college.

Other schools that reportedly received similar threats include Enterprise State Community College, Lurleen B. Wallace Community College's two campuses in Andalusia and Opp and Wallace State Community College's campus in Dothan.

A spokesperson for Shelton State Community College also confirmed the closures to Patch, but said the school would not be providing any additional updates at this time.
