Suspect Charged With Assault After Tuesday Morning Shooting In Northport

A 29-year-old man has been charged with first degree assault after a man was shot at a Northport apartment complex Tuesday morning.

NORTHPORT, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has charged a 29-year-old man with first degree assault after allegedly shooting a man at a Northport apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, said the Northport Police Department responded at approximately 10:45 a.m. to the call of a shooting in the 2700 block of 43rd Avenue at Georgetown Apartments.

Once on scene, police found a 54-year-old man had been shot. As Patch previously reported, the victim was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Kennedy then said a person of interest was developed, resulting in the arrest of Cedric Alexander Sanders, Jr. He went on to explain that the motive behind the shooting appears to have been a verbal argument.

Sanders was jailed on the assault charge and his bond was set at $30,000.
