The announcement comes a little more than a week after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, resulting in abortion immediately becoming a felony offense in Alabama other than instances where the mother's life is in danger or if the mother is clinically diagnosed as suicidal.

“We know that this court decision and this state law will kill and harm people," Tuscaloosa Action co-founder Emily Altman told Patch. "In a state that has one of the worst maternal mortality rates, where more than half of our counties don’t have access to hospitals with maternity care, we are going to take away peoples choices and force them to carry pregnancies and birth. This will perpetuate death, poverty, and racism in this state and our nation. People need to show up, people need to donate, and people need to support the people doing the work for justice in our community.”

In the immediate wake of the decision, protestors could already be seen outside of the federal courthouse decrying Alabama's 2019 abortion ban, which has now become the law of the land after the repeal of Roe v. Wade.

The rally on Monday in Tuscaloosa will also coincide with numerous other similar events held around Alabama on July 4, in places like Auburn, Cullman, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Vestavia Hills.
